...That the turbo F1 cars remind them of the pod racers from star wars? Every time I hear an audio clip of the cars, my mind goes right to the race scene in Phantom Menace.

I seem to remember hearing that they spliced audio from multiple race cars, including F1, to make the sounds.

I believe it. I definitely hear some V10 or V12 era F1 in Anakin's pod, where Sebulba is definitely something more American, like a big cammed V8.
